There is so much working against us in our attempts to be mindful. The effort and discipline it takes to practice mindfulness is directly opposed to our own habitual ways of experiencing our lives. We fall into automaticity and the dream state of unawareness very easily. These habits are outside of our consciousness but they are stubborn and very strong.
To be mindful, you are doing the work of opening the reservoirs of clarity that exist within you. You are giving yourself respite from the incessant stream of thoughts, cultivating instead a space of inner quiet.
